Following the release of Under Soil And Dirt (USAD), The Story So Far have grown to become everyone’s new favourite pop punk band. So when they announced that they would be recording their follow up album with New Found Glory’s Steve Klein, the already high anticipation soared. So have they met expectations? – The answer, quite simply is yes.
Right from opening track ‘Things That I Can’t Change’, it’s clear that the boys from California have picked up where they left off; continuing with the formula that has been successful for them so far. Why not when the songs are this good?!
Some might find it less catchy than its predecessor, with ‘Right Here’ being the most infectious song following the first listen. It also doesn’t have any tracks in the vein of USAD’s ‘Placeholder’, instead choosing to remain upbeat throughout. However, the quality of these songs makes up for any lack of variation because TSSF are just doing what they do best; producing heartfelt, shouty pop-punk tracks that make you want to throw your fists in the air and jump on top of the nearest crowd.
What You Don’t See is the perfect second album and certainly an early contender for record of the year.
