Random rock supergroups are a definite rarity these days, and combinations don’t come much more unusual than Cancer Bats’ Liam Cormier and Bullet For My Valentine’s Matt Tuck. It’s a combination which shouldn’t really work, but somehow actually does. Liam’s gnarly screams bouncing off Matt’s smooth tones find some sort of perfect middle ground of face-melting metal and infectious melodies in new supergroup, Axewound.
Their debut album Vultures, as a whole, is incredibly good fun. Take the title-track for example, the adrenaline-fuelled drum beats and a guitar solo from none-other than Avenged Sevenfold’s Synyster Gates makes for an unpredictable, blood pumping adventure. ‘Post Apocalyptic Party’ is the ultimate no holds barred metal tune, as Liam yells “Party ‘till you’re dead!” you can’t help but think it’d be pretty easy to if you had this on repeat. Party on, dudes.
